Inspired by from photographs of San Francisco’s underground gay scene in the 1970s, this image was discovered by Martine Rose while working with rave historian Steve Terry, and are referenced throughout her Spring/Summer 2021 collection via this image, psychedelic floral denim, all-leather looks in acid yellow and black moc-croc textured leather.
Martine Rose is a London-based designer whose eponymous menswear label has become a cult favorite since its establishment in 2007. Rose draws inspiration from the diverse communities that surrounded her while growing up in South London, where she frequented post rave gatherings that blended social groups and were free of discrimination. Her signature design aesthetic involves distorting traditional silhouettes and skewing the status quo. She’s been nominated for prizes from ANADAM for emerging designers and LVMH, as well as BFC’s British Designer of the Year for menswear.
