Going to Waist: The Tuckability Factor with Sissy Sainte-Marie

I was never much of a jeans-and-t-shirt girl even though it is, in theory, the quintessential perfect pairing for an effortlessly cool outfit. I guess I’m cool with effort. I’m not so cool with discomfort. I don’t think I ever got so many “amen”s as when I included the term “clitorectomy jeans” in the caption to a photo of me in a pair of denim pants. So I know many can relate. Instead, I have adopted t-shirts and trousers as my #1 on-set attire as well as my thought-out yet comfy-casual day-to-day look. It’s fun to go full 90’s dad with a bucket hat and sneakers. Or dressed up with chunky jewelry and heels. Always pleat-front, belted & a bit oversized. Here are 5 takes on the closet equivalent of PB&J.

Speaking of 90’s dad…This already iconic Martine Rose graphic tee is a legit closet staple and packs plenty of childhood nostalgia.

These corduroy trousers have a super high rise, which I find is key to making a pleat-front pant work.

I have nothing against denim, it just has to feel good. Here is a feathery soft wide-leg pair worn with an oversized long sleeve tee.

Here’s a version of trousers and a tee with a more maximal and monochrome spin.

The other 4 trousers I styled had their own built-in placket situations, but for this pair I brought in a fun orange belt.  (Two styling tips here: 1) build up your belt collection and 2) mix your bright whites with your off-whites.
